HR vs Abington Heights
Losing, and thereby ending the season, is disheartening. Consider, however, the brighter side of things, which will surely be easier in a few days-
Whenever it happened, our season was likely to end with a loss. That's just the nature of playoffs.
The seeding may not have worked in our favor, but sooner or later we would be matched up with a top team like Abington Heights. This game wasn't close- the better team clearly won.
When Coach Sal talked to the team before the season, he promised a winning season if the team worked hard. Did anyone else chuckle inside? Knowing how last season went, did anyone really expect to be in the district playoffs when the season started?
Any season is going to have it's ups and downs. This match was a down, but how about the many ups we had? Monday's OT thriller? Winning the last Crestwood match after we dropped the first? Jumping out in front of Valley West 2-0? Opening the season with a win to occupy first place in division 1?
More important than all that, this team seemed to bond. The early "buzz" around this team grew to outright fun as the season went on.
Memories of this team, this season, will eventually be far more ups than downs, far more plus than minus, far more "I Will Survive" and far less red cards & losses.
On the subject of fun, there are some plans afoot that need some momentum to come to fruition. First off, for a truly unique experience, try to make it out to a St. Gregory's game while they are still playing. Check the Wyoming Seminary gallery for a few thoughts on St. Gregory's from last season. Any team that can bring more than one set of bagpipes to a game is worth seeing. Second, There is some talk about a post-season soccer banquet- probably something at Leggio's similar to senior night, come 1 come all, pay per person. This could be fun, but it needs an organizer. Betsy Verazin or Colleen Sperduto could probably be pushed into that role- feel free to lean on them a bit.
Update on the party thing- Vince Sperduto (Sr.) is picking up the ball and trying to organize this. He has some great ideas around awards and booster clubs. Let's make this happen!
